I wanted to share (with those of you who are not on Facebook) that I went to New York last weekend to take a Self-Defense Instructor course designed specifically for non-martial arts women. The course is called FLAG (Fight Like A Girl-formerly known as Rape Escape) and is based on BJJ techniques. The techniques are simplified so they are easier to remember and focus on a woman using her strongest assets (her legs) against a male attacker. The course was designed by Steve Kardian and Brad Parker (Police Officers / BJJ Black Belts) after studying attacks on women over the past 15 years.

Although I would LOVE for all of you to get your wives and girlfriends signed-up for BJJ classes (then we could have a class JUST for women), I know it can be intimidating or scary......FLAG would be a great place for them to start. These are moves that all women should know!

Plus, I am the only certified FLAG Instructor in North Carolina : D
